Your Right to Delete Your Data
You have the right to request deletion of your account and all associated personal data at any time. This page explains how to do that and what data will be deleted.
What Data Will Be Deleted
When you delete your account, we will permanently remove:
- Account Information: Your email, name, screen name, and profile information
- User Preferences: Your location, phone number, and social media handles
- Engagement Data: Your badges, resource progress, and activity history
- Pledge Information: Your pledge date and commitment data
- WordPress User Account: Your entire WordPress user profile and metadata
- Firebase Authentication: Your Firebase authentication tokens and identifiers
What Data May Be Retained
For legal and operational reasons, we may retain certain information:
- Donation Records: Financial transaction records may be retained for tax and accounting purposes (as required by law)
- Aggregated Analytics: Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you
- Backup Copies: Data may exist in backups for up to 90 days before being permanently deleted
How to Delete Your Account
Option 1: Self-Service Deletion (Recommended)
If you're logged in:
- Go to your WordPress profile page
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Click the "Delete Account" button
- Confirm your decision by entering your password
- Your account and data will be deleted immediately
Option 2: Request Deletion via Email
If you cannot access your account or prefer to request deletion:
- Send an email to support@choose90.org
- Subject line: "Account Deletion Request"
- Include the following information:
- Your full name
- Email address associated with your account
- Request for account deletion
- Confirmation that you understand data will be permanently deleted
- We will verify your identity and process your request within 30 days
Firebase Authentication Data
If you signed up using Google or Facebook (Firebase Authentication), you may also need to:
Note: We will delete your Firebase authentication data from our systems, but you should also revoke access from your Google/Facebook account settings for complete removal.
What Happens After Deletion
- Immediate: Your account is deactivated and you can no longer log in
- Within 24 hours: Your personal data is removed from our active database
- Within 90 days: Your data is removed from all backup systems
- Permanent: Your data cannot be recovered after deletion
Request a Copy of Your Data First
Before deleting your account, you may want to download a copy of your data. To request your data:
- Email support@choose90.org
- Subject line: "Data Export Request"
- Include your account email address
- We will provide your data in a machine-readable format within 30 days
